Would you like to tell your story?

We are launching a new project at SouthlandStory.org where we are collecting oral histories from our area.

If you would like to be recorded telling a 3-4 minute story from your life, please reach out to Jess at jess@sschlibrary.org, call the library at 708-755-5040, or visit southlandstory.org.

We are particularly interested in collecting the stories of our local elders, so please pass this information along to older friends and family whose stories you would like to preserve.

Stories can be told in English or Spanish.

We will be holding an informational session soon. If you would like to be involved in the early stages, please contact us.

Register now for the Dinosaur Egg Hunt November 6th

Our first-ever dinosaur egg hunt is coming up soon! Call us to register for your child’s spot.

Your child (or your family, if you have multiple children) can sign up for their own 20 minute window where they will hunt for a set of 5 dinosaur eggs (made of baking soda) that are hidden in the youth wing. At the end of your 20 minutes, take your eggs and a goodie bag home where you can have fizzy fun hatching your eggs!

Your goodie bag will include:

  • small cups of dish soap and vinegar with instructions for how to make your fizzy eggs hatch
  • construction paper and glue and instructions to make your own fun dinosaur hat
  • a free book

Spots are limited so please call 708-755-5040 to register! Registration ends November 1st so we have time to prepare the eggs.

COVID protocols in place: Your family will have their own 20 minute session and masks are required for all visitors over the age of 2 per local mandates. Please do not arrive too early so we can avoid crowding. Thank you for helping us provide a safe program for little ones.

Museum Adventure Passes Available

As the weather improves and more of us are vaccinated, you may be looking to get out and explore.

The library offers free or discounted passes to many Chicago-area museums and zoos.

Passes are good for one week from the day they are issued and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no need to return the pass once you are finished with it. Only one pass may be issued per adult library card.
