Donations

Join the Friends of the Library! Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 7:00pm in the library. You can print and mail in this form or use the form here online. Memberships are tax deductible. The Friends group holds fundraising events for the library and promotes it in the community.

Book Donations

What can I donate?

We will gladly accept paperback or hardcover books (including college textbooks) in good condition, as well as DVDs, CDs, or video games.

We are unable to accept:

  • newspapers and magazines
  • encyclopedias
  • coloring books
  • books that have been wet, even if they have dried. (They are very likely to grow mold and pass that mold to other books)
  • books that smell like smoke or pets
  • VHS or cassette tapes

What will happen to the things I donate?

If the item aligns with our Collection Development Policy and is needed by the library, we may choose to add it to the collection. In other circumstances, it will be sold by our Friends group (using vendors such as Better World Books, Discover Books, or Amazon) to benefit the library, or responsibly recycled.

Memorials

Memorials are gifts/donations made in memory of a loved one. These may be of any amount, and you may choose to have the money benefit a Book Fund, a Programming Fund, a Building Fund, or a Technology Fund. You will receive a confirmation letter for your donation, and it will be acknowledged in the library’s Memorial Book at the Circulation Desk, and on the website.

Gift Bricks

The Steger-South Chicago Heights Library offers Gift Bricks that may be purchased by our patrons. Each brick may be engraved with a personal message, and will be displayed as a brick path around our Children’s Reading Garden. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law. The Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library maintains the right of final approval for all engravings.
