We are open for in-person service and we also offer curbside and home delivery.
Out of respect for the more vulnerable members of our community, we ask that visitors wear a mask while inside the building.
You may checkout and return items, pick up print or copy jobs, and send and receive faxes curbside during our open hours. Please call us when you arrive.
If you are unable to come to the library, you can apply to receive your items via home delivery. Please call us or apply online to begin the process.
Computer use is free for patrons with a Steger-South Chicago Heights library card.
Non-resident guests may purchase a guest pass for $1.00 per 30 minutes.
Printing, Faxing, and Scanning Services
Patrons may print from the computers directly to the copy machine and pick up their prints by scanning their library card or guest pass.
Prints are $0.10 per black and white page and $0.25 per color page.
You may also email any documents you would like printed to firstname.lastname@example.org and pick them up at the front desk or curbside for the same price. Don’t worry – we will delete your emailed document after it is printed.
Please come to the front desk or call us curbside to send a fax. Sending a fax is $1.00 per page. We require that you use one of our cover sheets, but we will not charge you for that page.
You may also receive faxes at the library. They are $0.10 a page.
Our copy machine can scan color or black and white documents. Patrons can scan a document or image to a library computer or request that a staff member email it to them. There is no charge for this service. Please remember to delete your scanned document before you leave; staff will delete any documents we scan after we send them.
Public notary services are available. If you have a current SSCHPL card, this service is free. If you do not have a current Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library card, this service is $2. Notary availability is limited, so please call to see if a notary is in that day.
We can laminate items for $1.00 per page. Please bear in mind that the lamination process can damage sensitive papers and we are not liable for any damages that may occur due to the high heat of the machine. Staff will not laminate Social Security cards, COVID vaccination cards, photographs, or government documents like birth/death/marriage certificates as they may become unusable.
Paying for Prints, Faxes, or Other Services
You can pay by cash (please, no bills over $20) or check. If you have a library card from SSCHPL or another library in our system, we can add the cost of your print, fax, or other service as a fine to your account. You can pay for it then by logging into your account online or in the SWAN Libraries app.
If we do not have the item you are looking for, we will request it from another library and have it sent to SSCHPL. If you are unable to find what you’re looking for at a library within our network, we can usually find it elsewhere, but it may take longer. This service is usually free, but sometimes other libraries may charge a small fee for rare or specialized items.
College textbooks are unavailable through interlibrary loan.
